75 garment workers have become literate

Under the project ‘Workplace Adult Literacy & Continuing Education’ of Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM), a total of 75 female garment workers have become literate. The literacy certificates were distributed among the workers at the Young An Hat BD factory in Chittagong recently. They received the literacy skilled certificates after being literate from the project in three batches, says a press release. In his welcome address of the programme, team leader of DAM’s education programme Md. Shahidul Islam highlighted various innovative practices of Non-Formal Education (NFE) under Dhaka Ahsania Mission. He also welcomed the foreign buyers and factory management to come forward to implement the workplace adult literacy project. Programme Director Dr. Khawja Shamsul Huda upheld the progress of the project. President and CEO of Outdoor Cap (ODC) Eduardo Senf and Executive Vice-President of Global Social Responsibility of ODC, USA Nicole Faye Tillman said ODC wants to play a role in improving the quality of garment workers and the production quality through the workplace literacy programme. Director of Young An Hat (BD) Ltd M S Kwon, Genaral Manager Abtaf Uddin Ahmed, Factory Manager Sreedam Das, ICT Specialist in Education programme of DAM SK Shafiqur Rahman, DAM Regional Manager Shiplab Chakma and other guests were present on the occasion. Mentioned that with the financial assistance of Outdoor Cap (ODC) USA, Dhaka Ahsania Mission & Young An Hat BD LTD are jointly implementing the project in Chittagong EPZ.
