BD imported textiles worth $7.15 billion in 2016

Bangladesh slid a notch down to the sixth position among the largest importers of textiles across in the world in 2016, according to the World Trade Organisation (WTO).During the year Bangladesh imported textile worth $7.15 billion mostly from China and India. In the previous year that is 2015 the textile imports reached $10 billion.The decline in textile import by Bangladesh is mainly due to slowdown in demand from the industry.The import value of textiles was $6.8 billion in 2014 and $6.2 billion in 2013.The World Trade Statistical Review 2017, released by the WTO recently, also showed that European Union (EU) was the largest importer of textiles in last year followed by the United States and China.Vietnam and Japan ranked as fourth and fifth respectively on importing textiles from the world.The WTO data also showed that China is the largest exporter of textiles followed by the EU and India.
