BKMEA signs deal on health services for factory workers

Representatives of BKMEA, GDFP and the Marie Stopes Bangladesh seen at the MoU signing ceremony at the BKMEA conference room in the capital recently. The Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Marie Stopes Bangladesh and the Directorate General of Family Planning (GDFP) on health services to garment workers and their family members. They signed the trilateral MOU in association with the Netherlands embassy at the BKMEA conference room in the capital on Wednesday, according to a statement. Dr Kazi Mustafa Sarwar, Additional Secretary and Director General of GDFP, Mansoor Ahmed, First Vice President of BKMEA, and Masrurul Islam, Country Director of Marie Stopes Bangladesh, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides. They inked the deal with the aim to extend health services to the readymade garment (RMG) workers and employees working in factories under the BKMEA. The deal will play a vital role in providing health services like family planning and reproductive health care to the RMG family, the statement said. Dr Md Shamsul Karim, Programme Manager, FP-FSD, DGFP, and Md Homaun Kaabir Khan Shilpi, Vice President (Finance) of BKMEA, spoke at the agreement-signing ceremony. Dr Annie Vestjens, First Secretary, SRHR and Gender, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, joined the ceremony as the Special Guest. Imrul Hasan Khan, General Manager, (Special Programmes), Marie Stopes Bangladesh, Pranab Kumar Neogi, Joint Secretary, Director (Finance) and Line Director (FP-FSD), Directorate General of Family Planning, also spoke on the occasion.
