Denim makers turning to green method

Country’s denim manufacturers have turned to eco-friendly technology as demand for green products on the rise in the world markets.It will not only reduce environmental hazards in every stage of production process, also it will cut production cost.It uses fewer chemicals, helps avoid wastage of water and reduce carbon emission and encourages use of recyclable raw materials.Industry insider said, the green system will help cut use of water by 92 per cent and energy by 30 per cent to produce a pair of jeans compared with conventional methods. The green technology will also reduce cotton waste by up to 87 per cent, thus easing emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases generated through the burning of cotton.”Use of less water and chemicals will ultimately protect our environment,” Abdus Salam Murshedy, Managing Director of Envoy Textiles Ltd told The New Nation on Monday.He said, they had started using such chemicals and technology which consuming less water and electricity to generate steams.He said, in traditional methods it requires production of 60-degree heat, but in sustainable method it can be done with 40-degree.Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury, Managing Director of Argon Denims., said they have technically sound professionals engaged in the production process of sustainable denim. He said “The sustainable method ensures optimum use of resources, helping manufacturers reduce production cost.” He said that green denim products are more popular among consumers than traditional ones.Mustafiz Uddin, Managing Director of Denim Expert Ltd, said that as the environmental cause was becoming a major issue in the world, buyers appeared more attracted to green products.He said, the buyers seemed ready to pay higher price for products manufactures in eco-friendly way.The Western consumers always prefer buying products manufactured in factories sensitive to the environment. The retailers also prioritise the green products while advertising their products. The buyers also prefer the factories that are environment-friendly. Keeping it in mind, the investors have started setting up factories which are friendly with environment.Buyers in future will prefer placing work order to them that have compliance and hold green certificate, Shahidullah Azim, former Vice-President of BGMEA saidHe said, they have already established a green garment factory named Classic Fashion Concept Limited and received Leed Platinum certificate.He said such turning into green practices will put the industry into a new height. Khandakar Rafiqul Islam, Managing Director of Golden Refit Garments Limited said, he has been taking preparation to apply green certificate. He said, establishing a green factory is much costlier than the traditional installation. But he is yet establishing green garment factory because of less production cost.
