Malaysia’s textile and garment exports climbed 10 per cent to RM 6.99 billion in the six months ended June 30, 2016 as against RM 6.33 billion in the same period of 2015. This was informed by deputy minister for international trade and industry Ahmad Maslan who said the growth was driven by higher export orders from the US, EU countries and Canada. According to the minister, 970 textile and garment units were registered with the ministry, of which over 400 were producing apparels, 80 yarn and 108 were manufacturing knitted fabric. “There are also textile factories in the country which manufacture woven fabric and garment accessories like zippers and labels,” Malaysian media quoted him as saying.
