PM for better B’desh-Malaysia economic teamwork

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday stressed the need for further boosting economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Malaysia, saying that there are scopes to increase bilateral trade. She expressed the view while outgoing Malaysian high commissioner to Bangladesh Norlin Binti Othman paid a courtesy call on the prime minister at her office in the capital. PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed the reporters after the call on. He said that the prime minister expressed satisfaction at the level of Malaysian investment in Bangladesh’s various sectors like textile, power, infrastructure and agro-based industries. She noted that both the countries agreed to hold regular consultations at foreign office-level to steer progress in all areas of bilateral cooperation. Thanking Norlin Binti Othman for completing her tenure in Dhaka successfully, Sheikh Hasina said the envoy contributed significantly in strengthening bilateral ties between Bangladesh and Malaysia. The Malaysian high commissioner said Bangladesh has high potential for economic development. Norlin Othman also lauded Bangladesh’s tremendous advancement in various sectors, saying the country has ensured basic needs of the people. Talking about cooperation on petroleum import, the envoy said Bangladesh’s Petrobangla imports petroleum from Malaysian state-run Petronas company. Prime minister’s international affairs adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi and PMO secretary Suraiya Begum were present, among others, at the meeting.
