President stresses RMG diversification

President Abdul Abdul Hamid advised leaders of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) for diversification of their products to sustain in global market which is becoming competitive day by day, reports BSS. The President came up with the advice when a 25- member delegation of BGMEA led by its President Md Siddiqur Rahman made a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban Tuesday afternoon. During the meeting, the delegation apprised the President of the various activities of the association, President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS after the meeting. The president was also told that the country’s export from the RMG sector in the last year was US$28 billion and hoped that it would be possible to achieve the US$50 billion garment export target by 2021. Praising the role of RMG sector for Bangladesh’s socioeconomic development, President Hamid urged the delegation to take new endeavors for the continued development of the sector. He also asked the garments owners to be cautious for ensuring welfare of their workers. The delegation said the security of the garments workers in the workplace has been ensured and condition of factories is now better than the past. The BGMEA leaders expressed gratitude to the government for its policy support for the development of the RMG sector and sought more cooperation for further development of the sector. Secretaries concerned to the President were present.
