Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, now on a visit to Tokyo, Wednesday urged the Japanese investors to invest in infrastructure sectors in Bangladesh. “The highest transparency of investments would be ensured,” he said speaking at a meeting with Japanese investors at the headquarters of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Tokyo, official at the ministry of Road Transport and Bridge said in Dhaka attributing to a message received. In the meeting, Road Transport and Highways Division Joint Secretary M Abdul Malek made a presentation on government’s priorities and potential projects in road infrastructure sector in Bangladesh. Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Masud Bin Momen and Bangladesh Embassy Economic Minister Dr. Jibon Ranjan Majumder were present at the meeting, among others. The minister said Japan is a tested friend of Bangladesh. Japanese investment in road communications has accelerated economic development in Bangladesh, he added. He urged the Japanese entrepreneurs to invest in the construction of roads, bridges, metro-rail and other infrastructures in Bangladesh. Organized by JICA, the meeting was attended by representatives of 20 top construction companies of Japan. Meanwhile, Japan has responded positively to the proposals for constructing two more monorail routes in Dhaka and Dhaka eastern bypass. The Japanese response came when Obaidul Quader called on Japanese Minister for Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Akihiro Ohta. In response to a proposal on construction of a 12-kilometre tunnel under the Jamuna River, the Japanese minister said the issue would be consulted with JICA.
