Workers’ rights, fair wages and safe working environments are preconditions for a sustainable business model, German Ambassador to Bangladesh Thomas Prinz said yesterday after he paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Last year, Bangladesh and Germany had a trade volume of more than 4.5 billion Euros and Germany is the largest importer of RMG products from Bangladesh in the European Union, he said. The bilateral trade volume between the two countries has increased by more than 20 per cent in the first three months of this year, he added. “This country has tremendous potentials – but with success comes responsibility,” said a German Embassy press release quoting the envoy. During his tenure, he pledged to contribute to further facilitate the German-Bangladesh economic ties by emphasising numerous opportunities in this country to German companies.
