Workers of a garment industry staged demonstration putting up barricade on busy Bayezid Bostami road for over one hour demanding salary and bonus in the city on Saturday. Workers of two garment units of Caesar Group took to the street in front of ‘Bangladesh Tea Board’ in Nasirabad industrial area under Bayezid Bostami police station demanding salary and bonus at around 2.30pm. Inspector (Intelligence) Arifur Rahman of Industrial Police said that some 500 workers work in the garment industry. As the management didn’t pay the salary on the government fixed date of July 10, the workers staged demonstration inside the factory on Saturday. At one stage, the agitating workers came out on the street causing traffic movement along the busy road to come to halt, said the inspector. On information, members of Industrial and Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) rushed to the spot and asked the management to pay the salary and bonus by Sunday. Following assurance the workers left the street at 3.30pm, informed Inspector Arifur.
