A three-day Bangladesh Apparel and Safety Exposition-2015 (BASEXPO-2015) will begin in the city Thursday (August 6), reports BSS. Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is arranging the first-ever exhibition to present the readymade garments sector of Bangladesh before the world and achieve the vision of US$ 50 billion export by 2021. The BASEXPO-2015 will be held at Hotel Radisson Blue Chittagong Bay View Auditorium with the participation of different buyers, forums, representatives from different international organizations, 74 reputed local and foreign companies of fabrics, knit, woven enterprises, garments machineries, labour representatives, educationists and media personalities. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, MP, will inaugurate the exposition as the chief guest while Engineer Mosharf Hossain, MP, Sajjad Karim, MEP, Chairman, (European Parliament) Trade and Monitoring Group, H E Pierre Mayaudon, Ambassador & the head of delegation of the European to Bangladesh, Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat, US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Benoit-Pierre LaraMee, High Commissioner of Canada to Bangladesh, A J M Nasir Uddin, Mayor, Chittagong City Corporation; Atiqul Islam Masud, President of BGMEA will attend the function as special guests. Apart from inaugural and concluding ceremonies, the main features of the BASEXPO-2015 include seminars on four separate subjects related to the current state of country’s garments sector and live fashion show each day at the exhibition venue with participation of noted artistes. First Vice President of BGMEA Nasir Uddin Chowdhury disclosed this while speaking at a press conference at BGMEA auditorium in the city this afternoon. He hoped that BASEXPO-2015 would be a centre place for reunion of local and foreign importers and exporters involved with the trade and the event would play a key role in increasing further the growth of the industry. He said BASEXPO-2015 would offer the buyers and visitors of home and abroad the opportunity of seeing for themselves the entire range of garments fabrics and accessories manufactured in Chittagong under one roof. Nasiruddin Chowdhury also placed some demands that included supplying gas and electricity to the industries in Chittagong.
