Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is set to unveil a roadmap to achieve its export target of $50 million by 2021, according to media reports in the country. The draft roadmap would be presented at the three-day apparel expo, which starts on August 6 in Chittagong. Both local and foreign companies are taking part in the expo which will have 73 stalls. BGMEA president M Atiqul Islam said government, private sector, donors, brands and labour organisations during the Dhaka Apparel Summit last year had suggested that the Association should formulate a roadmap to attain the export goal. “We’ve formulated a draft roadmap in cooperation with RMIT of Australia, which would be presented at the Chittagong Expo,” he added. Islam hinted the roadmap would provide a clear guideline to overcome the hurdles in achieving the goal. According to official data Bangladesh earned $30.18 billion from global exports in the last fiscal year, with readymade garments (RMG) making up $24.3 million of that figure.
