RAJSHAHI: Highlighting the enormous potentialities of the traditional silk sector in Rajshahi, Abdul Matlub Ahmad has categorically said the FBCCI will work positively for reviving the sector on priority basis. Abdul Matlub is the President of Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), reports BSS. He said: “We will work together to regain its lost glory as it has a big market in both domestic and global. We will find-out the existing problems and possibilities. We will see Bangladesh’s original silk products in all the local markets near future”. To this end, a ‘taskforce on silk revival’ will be formed as a modern, profitable and attractive silk business has become an urgent need. The FBCCI President was addressing a seminar titled “Problems and Prospects of Silk and Other Industries in Rajshahi Division” held at the conference hall of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) here today as chief guest. FBCCI and Fredrich Newmann- Stifting Furdie Freihfit (FNF) jointly organized the seminar. During his keynote presentation, Dr Nazmul Hossain, Country Representative of FNF, illustrated the existing problems and prospects of the silk sector. He also put forward a set of recommendations on how to revive the sector through overcoming the problems. With RCCI President Md Muniruzzaman in the chair, FBCCI Vice president Mahbubul Alam, Directors Rejaul Karim, Nurul Alam and Probir Kumar, RCCI former presidents Muhammad Ali Sarker and Abu Bakkar Ali and President of Bangladesh Silk Industry Owners Association Liakat Ali also spoke.
