Garment firms gear up to net buyers

More than a dozen local apparel makers will take part in an international textile fair in Paris next month. Of the 17 participants, 13 readymade garment manufacturing units will showcase their products at Texworld under the arrangement of the state-owned Export Promotion Bureau (EPB). The bureau is for the first time participating in the four-day fair beginning from September 14. Other companies will take part in the exposition on their own to attract the global buyers and visitors from more than 100 countries who are also expected to visit the fair. Messe Frankfurt France, which has an office in Dhaka, is organising the expo. Bangladeshi products have “great potential” in the international market and trade fairs are an ideal platform to showcase these products and capture the markets, the organiser said in a statement. “The September event is a very important time for the exhibitors because brands generally view two collections there for winter and initial trends for the summer,” said the statement. Last year’s edition was attended by more than 1,100 exhibitors and the event recorded 15,034 visitors from 109 countries, the statement said. This year the fair will display a range of fashion products from major manufacturing countries, such as China, South Korea, India, Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and Pakistan. Bangladesh will have a national pavilion under the EPB at the fair. The 13 companies, which will take part under the umbrella of EPB, are Anjuman Garments, Apparel Industry, Four Design, Innovation Design, Kimberly Apparel, MK Sweaters, Maruhisa, Nab Fashion, Nazia Apparel, Old Town, Rhyme Design, Tekstil Fashion and Toads Printing. EU Fashion, L’usine Fashion, Tex Dhaka and Tex Ebo International will participate under their own arrangement.
