President Abdul Hamid on Friday asked the expatriate Bangladeshis in Thailand to continue to work together rising above all differences to brighten the image of Bangladesh and consolidate their position in this Southeast Asia country, reports BSS. “We have an ambassador in Thailand but you must keep it in mind that every expatriate here is a goodwill ambassador of Bangladesh and you must try to brighten the country’s image side by side with our embassy,” the President said while speaking at a dinner hosted by Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand Saida Muna Tasneem, according to information received here yesterday evening. Held at Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel, it was attended by the officials and employees of the embassy and a good number of expatriate Bangladeshis. Abdul Hamid said Bangladesh is going ahead with prosperity under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the country has already become a lower-middle income country. “The government has taken up “Vision-2021 and 2041″ and I strongly believe that Bangladesh would be a middle-income country by 2021 and a developed country by 2042,” the President said and asked all to work from their respective positions to take this vision of the government ahead. Appreciating the Bangladesh ambassador and embassy officials and employees for working ceaselessly to expand Bangladesh’s relations with Thailand and Cambodia, the President said still there is more scope to work with Thailand in the areas of trade, commerce and investment, and for socioeconomic and regional cooperation. Referring to Bangladesh’s initiative to get recognition from Thailand as ASEAN dialogue partner, the President hoped that the Bangladesh ambassador’s steps in this regard would be successful. Abdul Hamid said Bangladesh’s relations, especially trade ties, with Thailand are increasing but the balance of trade is not in favour of Bangladesh. He asked the Bangladesh embassy officials and employees to work sincerely to expand market for Bangladesh products in Thailand.
