RMG needs dynamic branding to extend market

Branding Bangladeshi garments before the world in a dynamic way is needed now to grab more work order as well as to draw the attention of the consumers, said Atiqul Islam, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA). Bangladesh garment sector is going through a remediation process to ensure workers’ safety. But now it is necessary to get back the bright image of the industry to expedite the pace of earning $50 billion by the year 2021, he added.  Atiqul Islam was speaking at a press briefing arranged on the occasion of the three-day expo titled “Bangladesh Apparel and Safety Exposition, Chittagong 2015’’ scheduled to be kicked off at the Radisson Blu Chittagong on August 6. With an aim to explore every single avenue towards achieving the vision of US$ 50 billion of RMG export in 2021 set in the Dhaka Apparel Summit 2014, BGMEA is going to arrange the exhibition. According to information, the BGMEA has set the aim of earning $50 billion by the year 2012 to contribute largely to the country’s economy. It arranged ‘Apparel Summit’ last year where noted experts of the garment sectors suggested the pathway to reach the goal. Atiqul Islam said they have made the roadmap of reaching the goal of $50 billion and the roadmap will be presented at the expo in Chittagong. Terming energy crisis at the garment industry, the BGMEA president said it is not tough to achieve the target if the government solves the problems regarding power and energy. Opining for resolving the country’s political turmoil that hampers business here, Atiqul said such political atmosphere tarnishes the image of the country before the world. Shahidullah Azim, Vice-President, Reaz Bin Mahmood, Vice-President (Finance), and other BGMEA leaders, among others, were present at the press briefing. Mentionable, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmad will inaugurate the event at 10:00am on August 6, 2015. The mega exposition will showcase locally developed apparel products and provide an ideal opportunity for global apparel retailers to meet experienced clothing manufacturers of Bangladesh. The safety pavilion of the expo would introduce local apparel manufacturers to wide range of safety equipment and service providers. The event will also facilitating dialogue among stakeholders in four informative seminars to be held on 6 and 7 August to work out ways for Bangladesh to pursue its US$ 50 billion RMG export vision and become a premium brand worldwide by 2021.
