Shahi Exports Private Ltd (SEPL), one of the largest manufacturers and exporters of ready-to-wear garments in India, has started the construction of an apparel manufacturing unit in an industrial estate in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The exercise entails an investment of Rs 36 crore, according to media reports. The apparel unit, with a capacity of three lakh dresses per month, will provide direct employment for about 2,500 people. The construction work of the proposed unit would be completed in a year. “The state government has been giving stress on textile industries as it generates more employment. The state has been contemplating to set up two integrated textile parks at Choudwar and Bhadrak,” said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik after laying the foundation stone of the unit. Patnaik said Shahi Exports’ efforts to set up an export oriented apparel unit in the state would encourage others to invest in the state. The chief minister also said that the new industrial policy would have provisions to encourage investments in the textiles and handloom sectors.
