Six readymade garments factories have achieved international standards after completing renovation works, said Alliance for Workers’ Safety, a group of North American apparel buyersThe RGM factories are Green Textiles, Kun Tong Apparels, Laundry Industries, Leni Apparels, Optimum Fashions, and Univogh Limited.Former United State ambassador to Bangladesh F Moriarty on Thursday announced the name of the factories at a programme in a city hotel. So far, a total of eight Bangladeshi factories earned the prestige of having international standard from the alliance. The former ambassador at the programme said they had conducted extensive inspections to the member factories. Most of the factories still have faulty structures, faulty fire safety mechanism. But, these six factories have successfully fulfilled all the requirements, he added. The alliance managing director Mesbah Robin said they had conducted extensive inspections to eight apparel factories and found that six of those met the requirements. The certificates would be given within one or two days.He said as many as 790 factories are now member of the alliance. Off these, 662 are active. They have already completed primary inspection to 528 factories.Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) former president Abdus Salam Murshedy was present in the function.
