Managing director of Plummy Fashions Fazlul Haque hands over a souvenir to the representatives of European buyer firms. Plummy Fashions in Narayanganj, world’s first green knitwear factory, was visited by senior representatives of leading European buyers Tuesday. Markus Reinken, a senior official of Lidl, a German-based global discount supermarket chain, along with Klauss of German-based Juritex reached the factory premises by helicopter from Dhaka. The factory is situated in Kashipur Union of Narayanganj Sadar Upazila. They were accompanied by Dr. Wolfram Engel of Creative Consulting and Design Limited. Managing director of Plummy Fashions Fazlul Haque, along with directors Ranjan Dhar and Faisal Parag, greeted the foreign guests. After visiting the factory of Plummy Fashions, they expressed their satisfaction on its environmental standard and labour — friendly working condition. Lidl annually imports knitwear and garments worth $1.0 billion (100 crore) from Bangladesh. Plummy Fashions received the US Green Building Council’s ‘LEED Platinum’ certification and became the first green knit factory in the world. It is a highly energy saving factory situated on an area of 5.5 acres of land, having a two-storied manufacturing unit. It has 50 per cent open space with abundant greenery. There are six reservoirs having the storage capacity of 600 thousand (six lakh) litres of rainwater. The factory went into operation in May this year.
