Gebruder Otto has been nominated for Industry Excellence Award, an award for promoting sustainability in textile and garment manufacturing, at ITMA 2015 as a finalist with two others for its single jersey knitwear, which consumed a third less energy of the conventional spun and knitwear, according to a press release issued by Mayer & Cie. The single jersey knitwear by Gebruder Otto was made using the Spinitsystems – a unique textile machinery by Mayer & Cie that can spin and knit as well. This system enables a combination of four processes – ring spinning, cleaning, rewinding and circular knitting. Ring spinning and rewinding, which consume maximum energy in the process, are no longer required, leading to energy savings of up to 30 per cent. “We are naturally delighted with the ITMA Industry Excellence Award nomination and would be proud if we were to win it,” Andreas Merkel, managing director of Gebruder Otto said. “Mayer & Cie has indeed been able to provide Gebruder Otto a fine match for its sustainable production requirements.” “Because the yarn is not twisted, fabric produced on the spin-knit machine has no skew,” he added. The fabric also has voluminous and soft feel. Sustainability has always remained a key issue at Gebruder Otto, as per the press statement, and is pursued with great spirit and strength. Gebruder Otto collaborated with Mayer & Cie for making new knitted fabrics from its spin knit technology in 2013, the press statement read.
