At present, the annual demand for PSF stands at 3 lakh tonnes, which is being increased at a rate of 12-15 per cent. The spinning mills of the country are running their business being fully depended on imported PSF, which requires $480 million annually. The factory would be set up on 30 acres of land at Baghabari Ghat in Sirajganj with an annual production capacity of 1.20 lakh tonnes, which would also create employment of 8,000 people directly and indirectly. The project is expected to go on test production within next two years. When completed, it would be able to meet nearly 40 per cent of the country’s total demand. Terming the initiative of PSF production as a good news for the country’s spinning industry, the industries minister said a new horizon in the spinning industry would be opened by the initiative, as the businessmen were now totally depended on imported PSF. Amu hoped local production of PSF would help the businessmen to get rid of the monopoly of businesses of foreign company. Businessmen in the country would get opportunity to collect PSF at a rate 20 per cent less than the price of the imported PSF. The industries minister also called upon the businessmen to leave the mentality of producing substandard goods for making profit only.
