E-commerce major Amazon has opened the company’s Fulfilment Centre (FC) in Srirampore, near Kolkata. This is Amazon in’s first Fulfilment Centre in the eastern part of India. The FC is spread over 83,000 square feet and has a storage capacity of over two lakh cubic feet. The new FC will allow Amazon.in to offer its Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) service to thousands of small and medium businesses in the region and empower them to gain access to and service customers across the country at significantly low operating costs, the company said in a statement. The opening of the FC, ahead of the festive season, will open opportunities for sellers in the state to reach millions of new customers across the country, who in turn will be able to shop for the latest festive selection from West Bengal. It will also enable faster and quicker delivery of products to amazon.in customers in the eastern part of the country. Over 100 sellers from across the state have already registered at the facility and many of them have started inbounding their products at the facility. Amazon has invested substantially in creating logistics infrastructure in the country to help build a transformative customer experience for both buyers and sellers. Akhil Saxena, Director Operations, Amazon India said, “Our world-class fulfillment infrastructure and customer service will allow Amazon to do the heavy lifting for sellers of all sizes across the eastern part of India and help them grow profitably. We are committed to and look forward to partnering the state government in transforming the lives of small and medium businesses across the state by giving them access to tools and technology that will empower their growth in the digital economy. Apart from immensely benefiting sellers, the FC will also enable faster and quicker delivery of products to consumers across the region.” Amazon.in has 21 FCs operational across ten states in India with a total storage capacity of over five million cubic feet. The FC will enable local SMEs to leverage Amazon’s trusted platform and nationwide delivery thereby amplifying their reach beyond geographical boundaries. West Bengal based sellers, weavers and artisans involved in traditional textiles and local handicrafts too would all be able to reach a wider set of customers.
