Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Daraz-Asia Bjarke Mikkelson has termed Bangladesh a potential ecommerce-based online shopping marketplace that would be increased by 2 to 3 per cent within the next five years from the current 0.1 per cent. In an exclusive interview with The Daily Observer on Wednesday, the CEO of Daraz, one of Asia’s leading online shops for shoes and fashion wares, came up with the observations adding that a total of 2 million people around the world have already been visited their online shopping site only in a year. The online portal is a company of Asia Pacific Internet Group (APIG) that started its operation in November 2014. Products from 200 local and foreign companies of fashion, electronics, furniture, jewellery, home appliances and of different commodities targeting women, kids and others are registered with the Daraz shopping portal. “Our site is offering finest quality products of different popular brands at reasonable prices,” Bjarke told the Dairy Observer adding that the visitors can also find niche products of different discounted prices ranging from 5 to 30 per cent. Aiming at investing a large amount of money (more than Tk 440 crore) the online shopping company is already operating their business in Pakistan and has started investing in Bangladesh and Myanmar from 2014. The Asia region chief also said that online marketing is becoming popular along with the adequacy of e-commerce and smart phones with available high speed broadband networks. The CEO said, “We are here for doing healthy business by offering the best quality products and services. We’re also in easy payment system that one can buy our products either in cash on delivery payment with nominal fees or can pay in e-cash.” “In the Dhaka city, we are also offering hand to hand delivery for the customers who have purchased products from Daraz,” he farther added.
