Chairman of Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) Abdus Salam has expressed hope for reviving the lost reputation of garments industry of Chittagong and assured to work jointly with the BGMEA for establishing a garments village here. He disclosed it to the newly- elected office bearers of Chittagong Chapter of BGMEA at his office on Wednesday while paid courtesy call on CDA Chairman. He assured to select a land in and around Fatehabad township area subject to availability of suitable lands there. A team of BGMEA led by its newly- elected First Vice President Moinuddin Ahmed Minto paid a courtesy call on CDA chairman at latter’s office on Wednesday . BGMEA leader Moinuddin Ahmed in the view exchange meeting with CDA chairman said from very inception of the garments industries , 40% garments products exported from Chittagong belt now it comes down to 9% . He also opined that there is no alternative of garments village in Chittagong to overcome the situation BGMEA leaders proposed for establishing a garments village in outskirts of the city on khas land and some unused land of City Corporation . BGMEA leaders hoped to share the 50 billion dollars export target from RMG sector by the Government by next 2011 . Among others, Vice President Md. Ferdous, former first vice presidents Nasiruddin Chowdhury, Md. Ershadullah, Director Mahbub Chowdhury, former Director Helaluddin, Chittagong . Chamber Director Mahfuzul Hoque Shah were present during the courtesy call.
