Workers of Maskan Jeans Fashion of North Kattoli area under Akbar Shah Police Station in Chittagong city blocked the Ishan Mahajoan road for an hour on Tuesday afternoon demanding payment of their due salaries. Akbar Shah police Station Officer-in-Charge Swadip Kumar Das said the blockade caused severe traffic congestion in the area. Chittagong industrial police inspector Arifur Rahman told New Age that around 150 workers of the factory blockaded the road at about 1:45pm demanding payment of their due salaries of September, which was scheduled to be paid on Tuesday. Later, the agitating workers withdrew the blockade as representatives of the factory owner and Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association assured them they would be paid their salaries soon, the inspector said. Earlier, on Monday morning, several hundred workers of Gaus Fashion of Sagarika industrial area in the city blockaded road protesting at the retrenchment of the workforce of the factory.
