The fourth ‘Denimsand-jeans.com Bangladesh Show’ kicked off in the city on Wednesday aiming to bridge between the denim makers and buyers. With the theme of ‘denim playground’, exhibitors are bringing out their innovations to the visitors who traveled a long to visit the show at Hotel Radisson in the city. Indian High Commissioner Pankaj Saran inaugurated the expo while acting president of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry Humayun Rashid, among others, was present. “Bangladesh has become the top denim products exporter in the EU surpassing China,” Mr Saran said adding the supply chain within the country is ‘healthy’. Bangladesh has made remarkable progress in the last couple of decades and the show will help bring closer both the producers and the buyers, he added. Sandeep Agarwal, founder of Denimsandjeans Bangladesh said, “Denim Playground Dhaka means that Bangladesh is increasingly becoming a playground of denim aficionados from around the world who play with fabric, washes and styles to bring the most modern jeans and other denim products for the consumers worldwide.” Now Bangladesh is not only the biggest exporter of jeans to the EU, it is also making ripples in other important markets like the US, South America, China and India, he said. He added there is no other country which has today the strength, resources, volumes and economies of scales, which Bangladesh can offer to world denim buyers. Some 27 companies from Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Turkey, Italy and Indonesia are showcasing their products in the show. There will be a seminar on ‘profitable environmentally sustainable denim washing’ to be held today (Thursday), which will discuss the recent developments in washing chemistry and technology and to discuss what is practical and possible with denim washing plant operators and managers based in Bangladesh.
