Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Bir Bikram, today said the government has undertaken initiative to make Matlab as an industrial zone. “Work is going on to turn the North and the South upazilas of Matlab, closed to capital city, into a full-fledged industrial zone very soon,” he told a reception at BIAM in the city, according to a release. Former Student Kallyan Samity of Chhengrarchar Model High School accorded the reception with its ex-student and Professor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Dr Aminul Islam in the chair. The reception was also addressed, among others, by Dr Shamsul Haque Bhuiyan, MP, Lion Benazir Ahmed, industrialist and social activist Shahjahan Sikder, former joint secretary Ibrahim Khalil, Advocate Ruhul Amin and GKM Jahangir. Maya, also lawmaker of the North and the South upazilas of Matlab, said the government has constructed 250 kilometers of electricity line along with constructing and repairing 100 kilometres of road to make the upazila as an industrial zone. He said people would be able to reach Dhaka from Chandpur by two hours after completion of Maya Bir Bikram Bridge, the release said.
