The management of a readymade garment factory at Ashulia on Saturday suspended and issued show cause notice to over 60 workers for holding protests pressing for demands. The management of Fashion Craft Knit Wear Ltd hung a notice on factory main gate announcing suspension of and issuing show cause notice to 60 workers allegedly involved in movement for demands, Ashulia industrial police said. The workers and witnesses said the workers of the factory went to the factory gate in the morning and saw the notice. The workers held demonstration in the factory gate while security guards did not allow the workers into the factory. Mostafizur Rahman, director of Ashulia industrial police, said the police dispersed the workers from factory gate while they tried to demonstrate there. Additional policemen have been deployed in the factory gate to avoid any untoward incident,’ he said. The workers of the factory on November 21 started demonstration for their demands including 15 per cent increase in salary from the upcoming January, earn leave benefits and maternity leave. The management then suspended and issued show cause notice against six workers of the factory and on Monday the factory management shut the factory for an unidentified period. Responding to the workers’ demand, the management on Friday reopened the factory. The factory management was not available for any comment.
