The government has decided to reduce price of jute sacks by 10 per cent for ensuring proper implementation of the Jute Packaging Act, 2010 which ensures mandatory use of jute for packaging of six essential products. The decision will come into effect from today (Monday) and continue till January 30, 2016. State Minister for Textiles and Jute Mirza Azam, MP, made the disclosure while speaking at a meeting at the conference room of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) in the capital on Sunday. He said the government has completed all the preparations to implement the jute packaging act. “Apart from taking steps to ensure mandatory use of jute for packaging, the government has also taken steps to stop use of plastic polythene as these are harmful for public health,” the minister added. FBCCI leaders assured the government of cooperation in implementing Jute Packaging Act, 2010.
