Tokyo based Mitsui Chemicals has announced the expansion of production facilities for breathable films at its wholly-owned Mitsui Hygiene Materials, a manufacturer and distributer of nonwovens and breathable films for use in premium diapers in Thailand, according to a company press release. The demand for Japan-made premium baby diapers is growing rapidly along with the market for premium disposable diapers in Southeast Asia. By expanding its production overseas the company aims to enhance their supply capabilities and fulfil the growing demands in the Southeast Asian markets and for exports. The current production capacity of Mitsui Hygiene Materials is of 6,700 tonnes per annum, and the expansion will boost the capacity to 10,900 tonnes per annum. The company’s breathable film is widely recognised by East and Southeastern manufacturers for its excellent performance and good printability, both important requirements for premium diapers, and has shown healthy sales growth.
