Saad Musa Industrial Park is growing fast to contribute to socio-economic development alongside promising improved life, particularly for people of coastal Anwara upazila in the district. Saad Musa Group of Industries started developing infrastructure for the industrial park – first of its kind at individual initiative in Chittagong, on some 100 acres of barren land in Anwara upazila headquarters in 2010. Sources in Saad Musa Group said setting up of the industrial park with an estimated investment of around Tk 100 billion aimed at creating employment for 1, 00,000 people in 24 industrial units. The group started construction of buildings for industrial units in 2012 and could put six factories into operation creating employment for some 5000 people including 70 percent locals by now. With the recruited workforces drawing salary of more than Tk 10,000 including overtime earning each, the industrial park is already generating a minimum money flow of Tk 50,000,000.00 every month to improve life in the once disadvantaged coastal area and contribute to socio-economic development as well, said the sources. The operational industrial units include three spinning factories, two weaving factories producing gray fabrics and one twisting yarn factory. Construction of six more factory buildings are now going on and that of four more would start soon. With completion of construction ten more factories would be put into operations in these buildings to raise number of operational factories to 16 in the industrial park by the end of 2016. Eight more factories would also go into operation raising the total number factories including those for garments in the industrial park to 24 by 2017, said Managing Director Muhammad Mohsin of Saad Musa Group. There would be sufficient number of dormitories for workers, guest house, clinics for health care, school, mosque, madrasa and all other facilities in the industrial park. The Industrial park has its own water and power supply system. The management is bearing all the expenses for setting up pipeline upto the industrial park for gas to produce 30 megawatt of power. But, with the gas being available till now 1 MW of power can be produced, said Mohsin. He expected necessary cooperation and support from the government and departments concerned to ensure uninterrupted production and supply of power required for running the heavy and latest machineries that need to be kept operational round-the-clock for 360 days a year to avert damage or technical glitch. “Attaching importance to environmental aspects the management has already procured latest machineries and equipments at Tk 400 million to set up a central Effluent Treatment Plant in the industrial park,” he said. Mohammad Mohsin said, “While moving with the slogan – Love Bangladesh, Build Bangladesh, Saad Musa Group is trying to do something within its capacity for development of our home upazila Anwara and improved life for people living here.” “So, the group has also taken initiative to develop an education complex on 100 bighas of land and a health complex on another 100 bighas of land beside the industrial park,” he said. But, support and cooperation from the government and departments concerned would be required to make the ventures success, said Mohsin. He underscored the need for widening PAB (Patiya, Anwara, Banshkhali) Sarak that would form part of the proposed highway upto Cox’s Bazar and developing Anowara-Chandnaish road further in line with the present government’s development efforts to facilitate journey to and from the industrial park and the two complexes. Sources said Saad Musa Group started its journey with fibre boards back in 1984 before joining textile sector in 1994. It is now securing a leading position in textile sector in Chittagong. The group is also contributing to property development and housing activities. Saad Musa City Centre at Baridhara is already meeting requirement of urban life in the capital. The group is now developing Saad Musa Housing Complex with all facilities to commensurate with most modern urban life in the port city. The housing complex is being developed on 35 bighas of land beside Bayezid Bostami Raod adjoining Rahman Nagar in Nasirabad area. In the housing complex there would be 3000 apartments designed to withstand tremor measuring 7.5 on rikhter scale and cyclonic storm of 260 Kmph speed. To offer housing for middle and lower-middle class people size of the apartments would range from 850 Square Feet (Sq ft) to 1760 Sq ft.
