Major Taiwanese textile firms participating in the international textile machinery exhibition ITMA will showcase their latest developments and advantages of using their new materials at the show, Taiwan Textile Federation’s Textile Export Promotion Project (TEPP) has said in a statement. Most of the major Taiwanese companies are vertically integrated, which helps them achieve absolute control of the entire manufacturing process to ensure that production is sustainable across all links of the chain, TEPP said. In Taiwan, there is a relentless pursuit for developing green textiles by incorporating functional and aesthetic fashion innovations to eco-friendly production in order to improve consumers’ lives, in addition to contributing to preserving the environment. As a result, functionality and sustainability are today inextricably rooted in the DNA of Taiwan’s textile production chain, whether in terms of raw materials, manufacturing, processes, technology, product or the work environment. TEPP especially mentions innovation materials developed by seven firms, viz. Acelon, Far Eastern New Century, Formosa Chemicals & Fibre, Libolon, Yi Jinn, Zig Sheng, and Singtex. Acelon’s Lyocell is environment friendly and sustainable, as it is made by turning natural pulps into a paper paste, from where the cellulose yarn is extracted by using the so-called NMMO, which is then dissolved in the paste. AceStatic, produced by Acelon, is a fibre with electrically conductive feature by using conductive material imparted on the surface of polyester fibre through a unique fibre spinning technique. This fibre can reduce dust accumulation and avoid electrostatic field effect, and is suited for anti-explosion wears, clean-room garments, work wears, innerwear and medical textiles. New Copolymer, the latest product developed by Far Eastern New Century is different from all materials existing in the market, since it is not processed, not added to the yarn, not modified in the DMA nor mixed with any other material. It was discovered inside the polyester yarn itself. This is not the ordinary PET we know, but a new polyester that can be created or recycled. It is 100 per cent eco-friendly and dries 30 per cent faster than ordinary PET. Its waterproof and anti-electrostatic characteristics are superior.
