Leaders of Bangladesh Labour Rights Forum and Bangladesh Pragatishil Garments Sramik Federation called on the government to ensure safety of the workers at their workplaces. They made the demand at different programmes, held in the capital on Sunday, marking 25th anniversary of Saraka Garments fire incident in which 27 workers were killed. Bangladesh Labour Rights Forum held a discussion meeting at Dhaka Reporters Unity. Lovely Yesmin, joint convener of the forum, presented the keynote paper at the programme. She called on the government to take steps to ensure proper safety of the workers at their workplaces, to ensure free trade union rights of the workers at factories, and to increase wages of workers immediately. Forum convener labour leader Abul Hossain chaired meeting. mong others labour leaders–– Shirin Akhter, Razequzzaman Ratan, and Sirajul Islam Roni participated at the discussion meeting. Bangladesh Pragotishil Garments Sramik Federation formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club at about 10:00am. Labour leaders— AAM Foyez Hossain, Subal Sarker, Samsul Alam, Mohammad Shamsuddin, and Mir Mofazzal Hossain, spoke at the human chain rally, among others.
