The business community on Sunday demanded establishment of an ‘Information and Research Cell’ in the upcoming industrial policy to help the new entrepreneurs provide necessary direction and information. They made the demand in a dialogue on Industrial Policy of Bangladesh, organised by International Chamber of Commerce Bangladesh at Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry auditorium in the capital Dhaka. Industries minister Amir Hossain Amu addressed the dialogue as chief guest while industries secretary M Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan spoke as special guest with ICC Bangladesh president Mahbubur Rahman in the chair. Amu assured the community leaders of considering their demand for formulating the upcoming industrial policy incorporating an information and research cell and said it would boost up the economy and help build a business-friendly environment. ‘We are continuously trying to keep all industrial activities under a policy. Prime minister Sheikh Hasina is giving us necessary directions in this regard,’ he said. He, however, said the government laid emphasis on manufacturing products instead of assembling to make the country self-reliant. He also said an industrial park would be established for light engineering, chemical and drug industries. The upcoming industrial policy will provide necessary suggestion to the industrialists to run the business smoothly, he added. Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said the upcoming industrial policy would include an action plan which ensures coordination among the ministries. Senior assistant secretary of industry ministry M Salim Ullah delivered a presentation on the occasion.
