Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Monday said Bangladesh will get single transformation facility for exporting garment, chemicals and processed agricultural products as per a decision of the WTO Ministerial Conference. Tofail informed this at a press conference at his ministry on his return home after attending the WTO Ministerial Conference on December 15-18 in Nairobi, Kenya. The commence minister attended the WTO conference as the coordinator of the least developed countries (LDCs). Tofail also said two major decisions have been taken in favour of the LDCs in the WTO Conference—one on the Rules of Origin and another on preferential market access for the LDCs in service sector. “The decision on the Rules of Origin will play a significant role to make the best use of preferential market access, especially the duty-free and quota-free market access,” he said. He said decision has been taken in Nairobi to extend the term of waiver up to 2030 for providing preferential market facility to the LDCs in service sector and the decision has been very fruitful for Bangladesh as it has huge potential in the service sector. Besides, decision has been taken to provide subsidy in internal transportation for exporting agri products by the LDCs up to 2030.
