A court in Dhaka accepted the charge sheet on Monday in a murder case filed over Rana Plaza collapse and issued arrest warrant against 24 fugitive accused in the case, reports UNB. Dhaka Judicial Magistrate Al-Amin passed the order taking cognizance of the charge sheet submitted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The court also asked Savar Model Police Station to submit a report over their arrest by January 27 next. Of the total 42 accused, prime accused Sohel Rana is in jail while 16 out on bail and 24 remain fugitive. On June 01 last, over two years after the Rana Plaza tragedy, the CID of police pressed charges against 42 people, including Rana Plaza owner Sohel Rana, in the two cases filed over the garment factory collapse. Of the charge-sheeted accused, 17 were common in the two charge sheets submitted by the CID. Sohel Rana’s father Abdul Khalek and mother Marjina Begum and 12 government officials were among the charge-sheeted accused. Besides, 594 people were shown as witnesses in the killing case besides 135 in another case. On April 24, 2013, Rana Plaza building collapsed in Savar on the outskirts of the capital, Dhaka. A total of 1,129 people were killed and some 2,515 injured in the building collapse. Rajuk on that day filed a case with Savar Model Police Station against Sohel Rana for violating the Bangladesh National Building Code. Police also filed a case accusing six people, including Sohel Rana, on April 25 of committing murders. Police arrested Sohel Rana on April 28, 2013.
