Several hundred workers of a readymade garments (RMG) factory staged a demonstration in North Kamalapur area of the city on Tuesday morning, protesting the death of a fellow in a road accident on Monday, reports UNB. Sources said the workers of Olio Apparels put barricades on the roads at various points-from Arambagh intersection to Kamalapur level crossing, TT Para level crossing to Kamalapur crossing and Shahjahanpur intersection to Kamalapur crossing around 9am, disrupting traffic in the areas. Following the protest, Olio Apparels authorities shut down the factory around 10:00am. Informed, police rushed in and brought the situation under control. Aklima, 25, a worker of Olio Garments, was killed while two others, including a physically-challenged young man, were injured when a passenger bus hit them near Kamalapur Railway Station on Monday night. Quoting witnesses, police said the incident took place around 8:30pm when a passenger bus of ‘Balaka Paribahan’ hit them at the Railway Station crossing. Aklima died on the spot while another garment worker Hazera, 35 and Jasim, 30, a handicrafts man, were injured in the incident, said sub-inspector Fazlul Haque of Shahjahanpur Police Station. The injured were taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
