Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to formally inaugurate the development works of 10 economic zones today. In an attempt to attract more foreign and domestic investments across the country, the PM will launch the overall development works of the economic zones through a video conference to be held at a programme at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city. The industries, to be set up at the nearly completed economic zones, may start operation within a year, said BEZA officials. The government has undertaken a plan to establish 100 economic zones in phases over the next 15 years for creating more opportunities for investment, industrialisation and employment. Once established, the economic zones are expected to increase export earnings by US$40 billion and generate about 10 million additional jobs.
