Dr Victoria Addy, Technical Director, BLC Leather Technology Centre, will be opening this year’s ‘Sustainability in the Leather Supply Chain’ conference in Hong Kong to be held in the afternoon of Thursday, March 31 2016, during which the increasing upstream challenges, including chemicals and traceability, will be discussed. As both brand and consumer expectations rise, so do the challenges that chemical companies and leather manufacturers face, not just in terms of meeting those expectations but also in assuring the responsible supply of raw materials. With the continued work of organisations such as ZDHC, SAC and the LWG among others, we are becoming more focussed on embracing new technologies and safer chemistries to ensure the leather industry continues to thrive. Dr Addy will provide the scene setting for this must-attend conference where delegates will hear about topics including: MRSL for leather, Cleaner chemical technologies for beamhouse processing, Upstream chemical management, Need and drivers for traceability, Transparency in the supply chain & raw material provenance, Individual hide, skin & split traceability systems etc. As you would expect from this annual conference, there promises to be an agenda of influential and well respected speakers who will deliver thought-provoking and forward thinking presentations to engage and inspire for the future of the leather industry.
