The Germany-based sportswear giant expects to have 12 000 stores in China by 2020 while it reinforces its geography to operate in more than 2 200 Chinese cities. The Herzogenaurach-based sportswear giant is planning to open 3 000 stores in China over the next five years, whic will result in an expansion of its distribution network to 12 000 stores in China from its current 9 000. This expansion will also include a diversification of the geography of adidas points of sale in China, as the group aims to double the number of cities where it sells its products, to a total of more than 2 200 cities. “We are cautiously optimistic, but we’re far more on the optimistic side”, stated Mr. Colin Currie, adidas China Head. adidas executives plan to keep a close eye on the company’s sales data to track any fallout across China, now its fastest-growing global market.
