The BGMEA Cup, the first-ever inter-garments seven-a-side football tournament, organised by Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), will begin on Thursday (Mar 17) at International Turkish Hope School in Uttara.Twelve teams, split into two groups, will compete in 30-minute affairs of the week-ends tournament to be held on weekly holidays (Friday and Saturday).Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed will be the chief guest in the cup final on April 1.BGMEA President M Siddiqur Rahman disclosed these at a press briefing at Apparel Club of BGMEA Bhaban in Dhaka on Monday.BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Mohammad Nasir and Managing Director of Leo Entertainment Rezaur Rahman Rohan also spoke on the occasion where BGMEA vice president Ferdous Pervez Bivan was also present.
Participating teams are:
Group A – Epyllion Group, Interstoff Group, Apparel Industries Ltd, Torque Fashions Ltd, Ananta Garments Ltd and Envoy Group.
Group B- Bando Design Ltd, Versatile Group, Comfit Composite Knit Ltd, Rayon Tex Group, Sterling Group and Tamanna Apparel Group.
Top two teams from each of the group will qualify for the “Cup” semifinals while bottom two of the groups will play in the “Plate” semifinals. Only permanent officials of executive level will be entitled to play in the amateur tournament that restricted for the professional players.
