The government has taken an initiative to form Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) action plan to ensure the safety and health rights for the workers, especially those who are working in readymade garments (RMG) sector.The opinion came from a workshop hosted by the Labour and Employment Ministry on Sunday.Labour and Employment Minister Mujibul Haque Chunnu was present as the chief guest at the programme while Labour Secretary Mikail Shipar, International Labour Organisation Country Director of Bangladesh Srinivas B Reddy, Bangladesh Employers’ Federation President Salauddin Kashem Khan, National Co-ordination Committee for Workers’ Education and Jatiya Shramic League President Sukkur Mahmud were present there, among others.”The government will not tolerate any kind of irregularity of labour safety and health issues,” Mujibul Hauque Chunnu said after inaugurating the workshop.Labour OSH service will be implemented mainly in the RMG sector and a committee will be formed in every factory, he said.The OSH profile will present the labour’s safety in Bangladesh, he said adding that relation between labour and owner should be good.The government will request tender for building professional hospital in Tongi and Naranyanganj, the Minister said.The Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments Inspector General Syed Ahmed presented OSH regulations in the programme.
