Jago Bangladesh Garments Sramik Federation leaders on Friday called on the government to take steps to punish the owners of Rana Plaza and Tazreen Fashions on charges of killing their factory workers. The federation leaders and activists formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club at 11:00am where its president Bahrine Sultan Bahar made the call. The owners of these factories were responsible for killing more than 1,200 workers, he said. They did not get any punishment for their crimes, the speakers observed. On April 24, in 2013, Rana Plaza collapse claimed more than 1,100 lives, and on 24 November, 2012, more than 100 workers were killed at Tazreen Fashions factory fire, Bahar said. The organisation will hold rallies and processions in the Savar industrial belt from April 2 to 22. On April 24, they will place wreath in the graveyards of the Rana Plaza workers who were buried at Jurain graveyard in the capital. The organization leaders also called on the government to declare April 24 as mourning day and vacation for the garment workers.
