Three people, including a Pakistani citizen, were killed and 12 others were injured in a devastating fire at a textile factory in Narsingdi yesterday. Azizul Hakim, assistant manager of Momo Textile Mills, said the factory’s production manager Ashiqur Rahman, a Pakistani citizen, designer Ramzan Ali, 40, and an unknown worker were killed on the spot. Of the injured, Zakir Hossain and Akkas Ali were admitted to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, while others were taken to Narsingdi District Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Mizanur Rahman, deputy assistant director of Narsingdi Fire Service, said they suspect the fire originated from the warehouse, where chemicals for the factory were stored. The fire broke out around 5:45am and spread in the warehouse quickly. Being informed, 11 fire engines from Narsingdi and Dhaka rushed to the site and brought the flames under control after around three hours of hectic effort. A fireman named Mazharul Islam was injured. The extent of loss could not be known immediately. Deputy Inspector General of Police (Dhaka range) Mahfuzul Haque Nuruzzaman and Narsingdi Superintendent of Police Amena Begum visited the spot. The DIG directed the Narsingdi SP to take necessary actions after proper investigation into the incident.
