BD-JORDAN agree to explore trade & investment potentials

Bangladesh and Jordan on Friday agreed to explore trade and investment potentials between the two countries. The two sides agreed in this regard at a secretary-level talks held at the foreign ministry in Dhaka.Jordan foreign ministry secretary general Mohammad Tayseer Bani Yaseen and Bangladesh foreign ministry secretary (bilateral) Mizanur Rahman led respective side in the meeting, according to a foreign ministry press release. The Jordan delegation said in the meeting that business chambers of the two countries need to engage in meaningful business platforms while reciprocating visits on a regular basis. The Bangladesh side described the liberal policy framework of the government favouring foreign portfolio and direct investment as well as plans to engage in different business and trade promotional activities in Jordan. The Bangladesh delegation stressed the need for considering GSP facilities to Bangladeshi products for Jordanian market, as well as to explore and invest in Bangladesh’s priority sectors under the newly built Economic Zones, infrastructure and IT sectors, energy and minerals, garments and textiles and high tech industries. The Bangladesh side also hoped that Jordan would consider recruiting more skilled and semi-skilled workers from Bangladesh including professors, teachers, doctors, nurses and IT experts. The Jordan delegation praised the workers from Bangladesh and both sides agreed to continue the initiatives under the working group as per the provision set by the MoU on cooperation in the field of recruitment of manpower from Bangladesh signed in 2012. Bangladesh also requested Jordan to open its embassy in Dhaka. The two sides also discussed ways to deepen cooperation in the areas of defense, education, agriculture, culture, science and technology.Jordan SG arrived in Dhaka Friday on a three-day official visit. This is the first-ever visit by the foreign secretary of Jordan to Bangladesh. He also called on acting foreign secretary Khurshed Alam at his office. He is scheduled to leave Dhaka today (Saturday).
