German Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Thomas Prinz speaking at a seminar on “STeP by Oeko-Tex for Made in Green” held Tuesday at a city hotel. Speakers at a seminar stressed on Tuesday the need for cleaner production mechanism, improving product quality, working conditions and cost competitiveness to maintain a sustainable growth of the country’s readymade garment (RMG) industry.   They were speaking at the seminar titled “Sustainable Textile Production (STeP): STeP by Oeko-Tex for ‘Made in Green'” held at a city hotel on the day. German Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Thomas Prinz was present at the seminar as the chief guest while President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Md Siddiqur Rahman, Vice President of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) Md Mansoor Ahmed were special guests. Regional chief, South-East Asia of Hohenstein Textile Testing Institute Md Kamruzzaman moderated the seminar while its President and Chief Executive Officer Dr Stefan Meecheels, Managing Director Dr Stefan Droste and Director Jorg Diekmann, among others, spoke during the event.   Hohenstein Institution Bangladesh has been working in the country since 2004 and has already issued Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certificates to more than 1,000 local factories. The institute is working to create awareness among the factories to have production keeping the environment green and STeP by Oeko-Tex certificates were issued to four factories in Bangladesh recently.
