State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu on Sunday said the government is taking an initiative to introduce pension facilities for all export- oriented apparel workers to make their retired life smooth and hassle free. “Labour and Employment Ministry is planning to introduce pension facilities for all apparel workers and all workers will come under the facilities gradually,” the Minister told journalists while exchanging views with Labour Rights Journalists Forum at the state minister’s secretariat office here. The government has taken various steps including forming a special welfare fund from July for the apparel workers. Tk 0.03 per cent on export volume has been added in the welfare fund and about Tk 89 lakh has already been deposited, he informed. He said the government’s Labour Welfare Fund has got a total of Tk 171 crore till now while over Tk two crore has been given to different workers as assistance.
