The police prosecuted 300 apparel workers for a clash between apparel workers and police on Station Road in Chittagong on Wednesday that left 30 injured. Kotwali police station sub-inspector Nurul Islam filed the case on Wednesday night naming eight workers arrested during the clash Kotwali police station officer-in-charge Jashim Uddin said that they detained 100 people on Wednesday and released 92 of them. The rest eight apparel workers were named in the case and produced before Chittagong Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court that sent them to jail on Thursday, he added. At least 30 people including 5 cops were injured in the clash between police and workers of Asian Apparels Limited on Wednesday morning. Witnesses said that several hundred apparel workers besieged the factory headquarters on Station Road under Kotwali police station on Wednesday protesting at the reported torture of a woman worker by a supervisor of the factory at Kattoli in the port city. The agitated workers blocked the road as they found none of the officials at the office. They also clashed with police who tried to disperse them. Police fired about 100 rubber bullets to disperse the workers and 100 workers.
