Customs Intelligence (CI) officials seized garment raw materials worth Tk 10 million on Sunday. The materials, imported using bonded warehouse facility, were being sold in open market, according to a customs press release. A covered van carrying 25 tonnes of raw materials of sewing thread was released from Chittagong Port on August 4 without payment of any duty, as the importer enjoys bonded warehouse facility. The van (Dhaka Metro 18-0161) was supposed to head towards Florien Accessories & Packaging Ltd in Gazipur. But tipped off, the CI officials caught the vehicle while selling the raw materials in open market in Narayanganj. The company was provided bonded warehouse license for exporting garments accessories, and using the license it imported the raw materials. But the company tried to sell those in open market, dodging duty of Tk 1.5 million by misusing the facility. Customs authority will file a case in this regard.
