State Minister for Labour and Employment M Mujibul Huq Wednesday said disbursement of financial assistance will begin in November from the Sramik Kalyan Kendrio Fund formed for the workers of exported-oriented garment sector, reports BSS. He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a reception accorded to 172 new members of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) at DRU Sagor-Runi auditorium in the city, said an official release. The state minister said the export-oriented industries, particularly garment industries started depositing 0.03 percent of their export earnings to the welfare fund from July 1. In case of death of any worker, the highest amount Taka 3 lakh could be offered from this fund and another amount of Taka 2 lakh be offered for insurance purposes, he added. The state minister said the current volume of money deposited to the welfare fund for workers of formal and informal sectors is Taka 172 crore. The volume of the fund will surpass Taka 1,000 crore in near future, he hoped. The state minister appreciated the role of mass media in curbing corruption and other vices in society.
